THE SOUND OF ITS BEATING
THE SOUND OF ITS BEATING
Her long tresses were tangled, and she liked it that way. She was unkept, and she appreciated not having to be manicured like she usually would during the competition season. However, he hadn't jumped her in months. She recently had a foal weaned off her, and she was relaxed in the spring sunlight. He enjoyed inhaling her scent of alfalfa and flyspray, and of fresh grass which she romped in all day. She had settled for grazing with him beside her, taking special care of him and making sure he didn't stray to far from her protective eye. He laughed quietly as she moved to coax a treat out of the pocket of his jeans.
Don't be picky, he whispered to her. I have nothing for you, my dear.
She obviously disagreed, and ended up conning him out of a peppermint he intended for his newest acquisition. the only foal that his stallion had, and even then he was an accident. Nonetheless, Takuya felt a twinge of nervous excitement grab at his stomach. He missed Impressionistic more than anyone would think he did, seeing as he never talked about the deceased stallion. For the most part, he never talked about the competition world in Japan. When he was considered for the Olympics. All of that melted away.
Where in the nine hells is everyone, anyway? He thought to himself, and then glanced back at Devilette. She grazed happily, seeming to be carefree and pleasant. If anything, Takuya was more protective over his mare than over his own life. She was everything to him, and he'd die for her. Almost reading his thoughts, she moseyed over to him, having the swagger of a seasoned broodmare. Resting her head on his shoulder, she sighed deeply and chewed the grass in her mouth. She understood more than he wanted to believe that she did. Her amber eyes pierced through his soul. She knew damn well he was lonely, bitter, and ready to strike out. He glanced around, making sure that no one was around. Of course, he couldn't be breaking barn rules where anyone could see him. So he led Dev to a secluded grove of trees and mounted her easily without a saddle and bridle.
You carry more than just a rider sometimes, my little Devilette. You carry my grief, my frustration, and the lies I've been forced to unravel all this time...Most importantly, you carry my last strand of sanity I believe I have.
Realizing he was venting to his horse, he laughed again. Bitter, this world was. Perhaps he should retire in a trailer and travel the world with his wild mare at his side. She didn't seem to mind the idea of an escape, either.
Nonetheless, TK was stuck in his own nightmare once more.
